Microsoft is closely working with Intel, AMD and PC manufactures to launch more than 30 models of windows 8 tables in this holiday season according to news published on leading Taiwanese publication.
According to Digitimes, a Taiwanese publication that closely tracks the offshore electronics manufacturing market “Intel and Microsoft have been keeping close cooperation with first-tier vendors developing new tablet PCs based on Windows 8, with a goal of decreasing the global market share for iPad from 70% currently to below 50% by the middle of 2013″.
The publication, citing unnamed sources, said that leading hardware makers such as Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Asustek Computer, Hewlett-Packard, and Toshiba are planning to release a total of 32 Windows 8 tablets by the end of 2012.
Lenovo and Acer plan to launch Windows 8 tablet PCs priced at US$300-1,000, with entry-level models to be sold at below US$300 to appeal to the low-end market and to compete with other inexpensive Android tablets and models at over US$300 to challenge iPad.
The story is published on the digitimes.com website with title “Intel/Microsoft aim to push down iPad global market share under 50% by mid-2013″.
